Procedures for Basketball Pre-Game Captains' and Coaches' Meetings

Approximately 15 minutes prior to game time:

Officials arrive on court move to their proper position to observe players.

Approximately 10 minutes prior to game time:

Referee meets with the personnel at the Scoring Table, checks score book, then proceeds to meet with Captains and Umpire(s) at Center Court.  After introductions, the referee determines the speaking captains, points out any court concerns and addresses any other issues.  At the conclusion of the meeting the referee says, "The officials expect all players to exhibit the highest standards of sportsmanship.  Best wishes to both teams."

At the conclusion of the Captain's Meeting the officials locate the coaches and request to meet with them on the Score Table's sidelines near half court:

After introductions of officials and coaches, the referee says to the coaches, ...

At the conclusion of the meeting the referee says, "The officials expect all of the coaches, players, and fans to exhibit the highest standards of sportsmanship.  Best wishes to both teams."

Officials return to their respective locations to observe players.
